Taryn is no stranger to breaking gender norms – and it shows!! She was elected class president as a freshman, empowering Taryn to feel confident in cultivating her leadership skills while serving her classmates for four years. She graduated second in her class while juggling Varsity Lacrosse, Model United Nations, Regional Activities Leading Local Youth, Peer Helpers and the Leo’s Club. She is an active volunteer for the Gilead Community Center, the RHAM Special Olympics Team, and the Power of the Words Conference, dedicated to raising awareness and discussion of teen bullying. Taryn is a recipient of the College Board Natural Rural and Small Town Scholar Award, the Suffolk University Book award, and the Excellence in Engineering Award, as well as a member of the National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, and one of only three sophomores chosen to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference as a delegate.
Taryn’s volunteer work in the community, paired with shadowing three local dentists, solidified her passion for dentistry and working with underserved populations. She plans to combine these passions to provide dental services to populations with poor access to health and dental care in the future. Entering a traditionally male-dominated practice area further empowers Taryn – she hopes to continue breaking the schema of who can be a powerful leader.
Congratulations Taryn, we’re thrilled to award you a $1,500 scholarship to achieve this goal!
